4 Hacks for Fitting Mindfulness Into Your Day

When talking about practicing mindfulness, being in the here and now, barriers such as “I do not have time” and “I’m just so busy” tend to come up. The thing with practicing mindfulness is that you do not have to set specific time aside for it, you can be mindful while doing any every day activities. Here are some examples to try.

  • Listening to music

    • Let’s say you are driving or playing music while you clean or work, you can be mindful by paying attention to the lyrics, sounds, notice your emotions as you listen to the song, where in your body you feel those emotions.

  • In the shower

    • Take this time to relax, notice the temperature of the water on your skin, the sound of the water hitting the floor, the smell of the soap, you can even try taking some deep breaths to help reach maximum relaxation

  • Eating

    • Mindful eating can help you develop a healthy relationship with food, noticing the colors of your food, the textures, temperature, what does it taste like, take your time to be in the present moment to make meals more enjoyable.

  • Cleaning

    • You can practice mindfulness while you clean your home, for example walking yourself through the steps of what you are doing like if you were on your own cooking show, maybe your doing the dishes and notice the sensation of the water running through your hands, the smell of the soap, the texture of the sponge.

Overall the idea is to use your sense to keep yourself engaged in the present moment, being more in tune with yourself and your emotions, making activities more enjoyable, improving concentration, and avoiding worry or negative thoughts.
